It’s time for another Esme Cardigan. And a fail by the way.

I stumbled upon this lovely viscose plaid fabric and initially wanted to sew a shirt-dress from it. However, I eventually decided against it. Another Esme it shall be, and I really liked the look of the cardigan, if I wouldn’t have messed it up.

Since it’s sewn from a very very fine and slippery viscose, but the pattern and color is screaming autumn, I decided to line the entire garment. I flatlined all the pieces with a soft, light gray flannel. Flat-lining is simply basting the two layers together and treat them as one.

By the way, I also planned to hand-fell all the inside seams but then decided against it due to the workload, and, to be honest, my nerves.

Here is a nice tutorial about flat lining and hand felling garments.

I did this once with my walking skirt but with these slippery fabrics, it was a huge pain in the ass, so I gave up quite fast and simply serged the edges.

Long story short, it’s all crumpled up and bulky and I totally hate it. It’s not even comfortable to wear. Ironing it helps for a short time but let’s be honest: as soon as an item is finished I will never ever iron it again. I still love the fabric, so I’m contemplating what else I can make of it. The cardigan uses quite large pattern pieces, so there should be potential, even though I am totally clueless by now.
